Wakulla County is the nature lover’s paradise with over 300 confirmed species of migratory and nesting birds, one of the most photographed lighthouses in the country, and maritime pleasures like scalloping, fishing, diving, snorkeling, and more — What’s not to love about Wakulla? It is located south of Tallahassee, Florida and bordered by Liberty, Franklin, and Jefferson Counties. Wakulla was founded on March 11, 1843, when Port Leon was destroyed by a hurricane and storm surge and its residents moved to Newport. Wakulla County consists of 735.74 square miles of which 606.66 square miles are land and 129.08 square miles of water. Wakulla County offers natural beauty and outdoor recreation. It is home to the Apalachicola National Forest, St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge, and Wakulla Springs State Park.
